Food Safety in the Childcare Setting

The goal of this course is to teach childcare providers how to provide safe food to children in their care.

Topics covered in this course include:

Food Safety Checklist: Print out the food safety checklist and take a tour of your own kitchen as if you were a food safety inspector and see if it passes the test.

Food Safety:
Facts about foodborne illnesses and what to watch out for provides priceless information. There are many ways to keep food safe. Purchasing, storing, and preparing food are three ways covered in this section. Where you get your food and what you do with the leftovers are very inportant things to remember. Also, this topic has special considerations for bottles and baby food. This section has helpful hints. It also makes you look at food differently and become more aware. There are multiple charts of storage times for various foods that are put in the fridge. USDA recommendations can be found in this topic and help you discover what can be done to lower the danger.

Putting it to Work:
In this section, you put what you have learned and what you know to work. You select three things from a list that you can do to improve the safety of your setting for childcare. Involving yourself in these activities can lower the danger of foodborne illnesses, wherever you are.
