Helping Young Children Get Enough Antioxidant Nutrients

Antioxidant nutrients counteract oxidative damage. (A very visible example of oxidation is when an apple is sliced, it turns brown unless lemon juice or some other antioxidant is put on it.) The possibility exists that increased intakes of antioxidant nutrients may help protect against chronic disease. The antioxidant nutrients found in foods (also in dietary supplements) are:

Vitamin C
Vitamin E
SeleniumBeta-Carotene and other Carotenoids (primarily Alpha-Carotene, Beta-Cryptoxanthin, Lutein, Lycopene, and Zeaxanthin)
