Experimental Design and Evaluation
Randomized complete block with 4 replications
1 row plots, 50 ft in length
Stand counts taken 2 June, 3 visible leaves on plant
30 ft length of row in middle of plot
Comments: This was a replant situation. The farmer decide to replant a quarter due
to stand loss from a
combination of wireworm and cutworm feeding. The farmer estimated a stand reduction of
12,000 to 14,000
plants lower than his original stand (approximately 30,000). Inspection of the field
earlier in the week by
company agronomists and UNL personnel found both wireworms and cutworms. As often happens,
good
growing conditions limited the damage to the replanted corn. There are some interesting
numbers here,
however, although statistically there does not appear to be much difference. There were
two untreated
treatments (8 rows total) in this experiment.
