CONTROL OF BEAN LEAF BEETLE IN SOYBEANS, 2000

Foliar treatments of registered and non-registered insecticides for BLB control were applied to soybean plots on 16 May.  Experimental design was a randomized complete block with four replications.  All liquid insecticides were applied with a back-pack sprayer calibrated to deliver 20 gpa at 30 psi.  Two d prior to application, beetle counts were taken with three random samples in each replication.  The average number of beetles/two meters of row averaged over all pretreatment samples were 12 beetles /two meters of row.  Four post treatment beetles counts were taken on d one, three, seven and 14.    Results were analyzed using analysis of variance procedures.  Treatment means were separated using LSD procedures.

All treatments resulted in significantly fewer beetles per two meters of row than the untreated check on d one, three, and seven.  Results were variable among treatments on d one, three, and seven.  There were no significant differences indicated in beetles per two meters of row on d 14.
