CONTROL OF BEAN LEAF BEETLE IN SOYBEANS, 2001

Foliar treatments of registered and non-registered insecticides for BLB control were applied to soybean plots on 27 May.  Experimental design was a randomized complete block with four replications.  All liquid insecticides were applied with a back-pack sprayer calibrated to deliver 20 gpa at 30 psi.  Two days prior to application, beetle counts were taken on one meter of soybean row  at  two random sites in each plot.  Four post treatment beetles counts were taken on day two, five, 11 and 15.    Results were analyzed using analysis of variance procedures.  Treatment means were separated using LSD procedures.

Results were variable on day two, 11 and 15.   Beetle counts were low for all treatments on day two because of very cool air temperatures.  On day five,  all treatments except for the fipronil treatment  resulted in significantly fewer beetles per two meters of row than the untreated check.
