Background
information pertaining to white grub insecticide experiments conducted
at the Dean Eckstrom field north of McLean, NE 2002.
Species
Still to be identified
Agronomic
Hybrid: Novartis 58D1
Row Spacing: 30
inches
Planting Date: 6
May
Planter: John Deere Maxemerge,
2 row
Planting Depth: 2
inches
Application Equipment:
Granules at
planting: Planter mounted cone-belt system, all in-furrow in front
of press wheel
All liquids applied with microtube in-furrow in front of press wheel
at 5 gallons solution/acre, 24 psi|
Seed treatments were applied by the companies on N58D1 and sent
to us.
Previous
Crop: 2001 corn replanted to soybean
due to extensive stand loss
Tillage: Disk once previous
to planting
Field History: Corn-soybean
rotation multiple years
Irrigation: None
Plot Direction: East-West
Plot length: 45
ft
Experimental
Design and Evaluation
Randomized
complete block with 4 replications, single row, no border rows between
treatments
Ratings: Plant population in middle 30 ft of row
Plant populations
were taken on 7, 10, 14, 17 and 25 June
Statistical
evaluation based on 25 June count.
Comments: A 15 acre area of this field was nearly 100%
destroyed by white grubs in 2001. Soybeans
were replanted in the area in June of 2001 and were not damaged by the
grubs. Enough grubs were left
in 2002 to give us a good screening experiment.
Stunting occurred throughout the rating period and yield will
be taken in October. No phytotoxic
symptoms were present, except those caused by the grubs (stunting and
purpling caused by lack of root system).
Rainfall was not recorded but virtually no rain fell during the
planting to recording period. Rainfall
from Concord is given but less rain probably fell on this plot
