Research/Extension Areas of Interest:
Efforts include development and utilization of models and indices for assessing environmental stress in animals. This research is unique in that it characterizes the interactions and impact of multiple environmental variables on livestock behavior and production. Mitigation and management strategies for livestock exposed to environmental stress have been characterized, in addition to evaluation of the effects of heat stress on beef cattle reproduction. Models have been developed which characterize the impact of climate and environmental components on carcass and performance traits. Additional research and extension efforts are devoted to management options for feeding, care and production of beef cattle.
